“A nice positive affirming evening for Finlay at Scottish Southern Energy HQ in Perth for the Powering Futures award ceremony.
This new education initiative recognises attainment as opposed to achievement (passing exams).
Over 1700 high school kids took part in the programme coming together in small groups to create solutions to a net zero problem. Equivalent to a Higher award the course tested the group’s ability to work together, leadership, communication, organisational and presentation skills.
Skills which employers highly value but are not tested in the current education system.
Of those original 1700 kids who started the programme 1100 completed it.
Another valuable lesson for them to stick with things and see them through, which will help them in their future roles. Of these 1100, 76 kids were singled out for special recognition for their personal contribution to their groups project.
These 76 are the initial recipients of the Ken Muir award which it is hoped will build into an annual event recognising the importance of the positive behaviour and skills that kids possess aside from the ability to pass exams.
